Welcome Community Partners

Fulfilling WSU’s mission to build and sustain “A community of learners improving our world,” means making a visible difference in the communities we serve. WSU values its community partnerships. Together, we’re doing great things:

Outdoor Education & Recreation Center

The OERC is offers trips, clinics, trainings and equipment rentals to the Winona community to promote the development of lifetime outdoor skills, teach safety and proper technique, and to gain an appreciation and concern for our natural environment and have a great time! From backpacking to camping and kayaking, the OERC can help anyone learn the requisite skills and provide equipment needed for an amazing adventure right here in our own back yard.

Addressing Climate Change

WSU, the City of Winona and other area learning institutions formed Sustain Winona, which is committed to achieving climate neutrality.

Promoting Resource Stewardship

Together with In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre and other area partners, WSU launched a yearlong Water Project to promote a broader understanding of regional, national, and international water issues.

Learning by Giving

Our students performed nearly 135,000 hours of community service in 2008. The exemplary service of students, faculty, and staff earned “With Distinction” recognition by the U.S. President’s 2008 Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

WSU welcomes new collaborations and opportunities to further serve and improve our community.
