Outdoor Education: Exploring Nature's Classroom

Subjects and skills like sustainability, team work, poetry, stewardship, history and geoscience are often best taught in nature's classroom.

Winona State University's scenic location offers unique opportunities for learning outdoors. Students and community members can explore the Mississippi River ecosystem aboard WSU's floating classroom, the Cal Fremling.

WSU's Outdoor Education & Recreation Center offers instruction, workshops, resources, and outdoor equipment rentals to help students and the community learn about, appreciate and enjoy our environment, including recreational activities such as:

  • rock climbing
  • canoeing
  • kayaking
  • camping
  • backpacking
  • snowshoeing
