How to Join TRIO
Are You Eligible for TRIO?
TRIO is funded by a federal grant to serve up to 325 students per year who meet certain eligibility requirements.
You must be a U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status. You'll also need to have academic need and meet at least one of these criteria:
- Are a first-generation college student, meaning neither parent has earned a four-year college degree
- Are low-income according to federal low-income guidelines

How do I apply to be a TRIO participant?
To join TRIO, you will have to complete an Intake Application Form (PDF) and an Individual Success Plan Form (PDF) and email forms to studentsupportservices@winona.edu
You should expect an email follow up within 3 to 5 business days after submission of your application. If you are eligible, you will be asked to set up a meeting with a TRIO advisor to complete the program intake process.
If I join, how much involvement in the program is required?
You and your advisor will work out a meeting plan based on your individual needs.
However, make sure you will fully use the program if you are taking a spot because TRIO can only serve a set number of students.
In general, TRIO students must at least attend one event sponsored by TRIO and have one check in with an advisor each semester.
You are strongly encouraged to participate in TRIO workshops, leadership activities
What if I'm not eligible for TRIO?
If you are not eligible or were not accepted into the TRIO program, there are many other campus resources you can use.
