Clinical Experiences

Students start with clinical experiences early in their degree program to give them an understanding of the profession and plenty of practice in the classroom.

Early clinical experiences, field experiences, and student teaching are important parts of the Teacher Education program.

The time, effort, and dedication you bring to your clinical experiences will benefit both you and your students.

If you have any questions about preparing to enter the classroom or setting up clinical experiences, the Center for Student Success team is ready to help.

Early Clinical Experience
Before you’ve been admitted to the Teacher Education program, you must complete an early clinical experience. This could be satisfied by:
  • EDFD 100
  • SPED 300
  • 15 hours of work or volunteer experience which involves working with groups of two or more children following high school graduation

Preparing for the Classroom

As you progress in your teacher education program, you’ll want to become familiar with the Teacher Education Handbook (PDF). This handbook has details about field experience, student teaching, licensure, and more.

Keep in mind that there are additional costs associated with clinical experiences.

Field Experiences
With field experiences, you’ll be placed in a variety of community and school settings to observe, tutor, co-teach and work side by side with experienced teachers.
