Sociology & Criminal Justice Internships

The Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice believes that internships are essential to students learning, as they provide hands-on, real-world experience. That’s why all students in our department are required to complete an internship as part of their curriculum.

Internships will give you professional experience before you graduate, making sure you will be prepared for the professional world when you begin your career.

Internships give you the chance to:

  • explore a particular field or occupation
  • explore different roles and relationships within an organization
  • apply and expand upon knowledge and skills learned in the classroom
  • help an organization meet its goals
  • develop professional relationships
  • work toward obtaining professional employment

One way to find internships is through the annual internship fair. Every fall semester, the department hosts a career fair on campus. This gives student the opportunity to connect with dozens of organizations and employers about internships and careers.

Internships must be at least 1 semester long, and may be 1-12 credits depending on your education path.

Contact your major advisor or Department Chair Mark Norman at mnorman@winona.edu for more information about internships.

Sociology

To set up an internship, you’ll first meet with the Internship Coordinator to discuss your ideas for the internship and your DARS report. Email Dr. Aurea Osgood at aosgood@winona.edu to arrange this meeting.

When you have had your internship experience approved, you and your site supervisor should complete the Contract for Internship/Field Experience and return the original signed forms to the internship coordinator.

Once these contracts are signed, you will be enrolled in the courses.
