Our Program
Today's 21st century learners inspired us to rethink teacher preparation. The Online Elementary Education program focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Ethnographers of English/Language Arts, Global Studies, and Action Research.
Along with these semester themes, there is a sustained focus on Culture & Student Learning, Clinical Practice, and becoming Data-informed.
A teacher of elementary education is authorized to design, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children from kindergarten through grade 6 (K-6) in a variety of public school K-6 settings.
The elementary teacher collaborates with families, colleagues, and related service personnel to enhance the learning of all children. Students in this program will be eligible for Minnesota Elementary Education Licensure (K-6).
Our Students
Individuals well suited for this program include undergraduate transfer students, paraprofessionals, mid-career professionals, recent college graduates, non-instructional assistants, school service providers, career changers, adult learners in child-centered jobs and more.
Ideal students are transfer students who have already completed an AA degree, or equivalent to 60 credits, and have the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MNTC) completed.
This program is 60 credits and you need 120 credits to complete your bachelor’s degree in Teaching at Winona State University.
Our Courses
Courses in this program are fully online that meet at night or on the weekend.
Each semester requires clinical hours in a school setting. We'll work to coordinate your field experience at a school close to your home.
Our course schedule is designed for you to complete your degree in only two years over five semesters, including two academic years and one summer session.
The Elementary Education (K-6) Online Program Integration Chart (PDF) illustrates the course sequence for this five-semester option.
