
Clinic Services at WSU
Student can get health care services on-campus and via telehealth.
Our medical team includes a physician, nurse practitioners, a registered nurse (RN), and licensed practical nurses (LPN). Our medical technologist performs laboratory tests.

We bill all appointments through your insurance first, then remaining charges are placed on your student account. Please bring your insurance information with you to all appointments.

COVID-19 Testing & Vaccinations
Health & Wellness Services offers COVID-19 tests to those who are symptomatic or have had close contact with a confirmed case. Please fill out the self-report form or call Ask-A-Nurse for a COVID-19 test.
We offer COVID-19 vaccines to WSU students in our clinic. Everyone is encouraged to stay up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines.
If you were tested for COVID-19 at an off-campus location or have received your COVID-19 vaccine, please fill out the self-report form.
Acute Injuries
- Evaluate and treat injuries
- Crutches, braces and splints are available for purchase
- Referrals for X-Ray and further evaluation
Allergy Injections
- Allergy injections can be administered by nurses.
- Allergy serum and dosing form needed from home allergist.
- Serum stored at H&WS in a temperature controlled refrigerator.
- A waiting period of 30 minutes after the injection is mandatory.
Birth Control (Contraception Management)
All forms of birth control available:
- Pills
- Shots
- Implants (Nexplanon)
- Ring (NuvaRing)
- Intrauterine Device (IUD-- Mirena, Skyla, Paragard)
- Safe sex needs such as condoms (male and female), dental dams and lube

Supplemental Insurance for contraceptive services available through the Minnesota Family Planning Program.
Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP or “Plan B")
Emergency contraception is available to decrease chance of pregnancy within 120 hours after unprotected sex.

General Illness
Treatment is available for common illnesses such as:
- Respiratory illnesses
- COVID-19 tests
- Monkeypox tests
- Influenza
- Headaches and ear aches
- "Pink eye"
- Sore throats and cough
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain
- Back pain
- Urinary tract infections (UTI)
- Skin rashes
Students can also receive management of chronic medical conditions:
- Diabetes
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Asthma
- Acne
Referrals are available for further treatment and evaluation as needed.
Immunizations
Students are required to have certain immunizations.
Immunizations available at H&WS include:
- Adacel (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis)
- COVID-19
- Gardasil (HPV)
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Influenza (Flu shot)
- Mantoux (TB test)
- Meningococcal (Meningitis)
- Meningococcal B (Meningitis B)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria (TD)
Laboratory Services
Laboratory services available include:
- Blood tests
- Urinalysis
- Pregnancy tests
- Strep screens
- Sexually transmitted infections (STI) screens
Orders from students' home clinician/provider are accepted and the results reported to ordering clinician/provider.
Mental Health
- Depression and anxiety medication management
- Referrals to psychiatry as needed
- Collaboration and referrals to Counseling & Wellness Services as needed
Nutrition Education
- Nutrition concerns addressed
- Referrals to dietician as needed
Pharmacy Services
Student can purchase over-the-counter medications at H&WS and prescriptions are sent to any pharmacy of choice.

Physical Exams
Physical exams are available for education programs, pre-operative, pre-employment, sports participation and international travel.
Sexual Assault Nurse Exam (SANE)
A SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) nurse is available to provide:
- an evidentiary exam, where physical evidence of the sexual assault is collected and documented
- treatment/prevention for STIs
- pregnancy testing/prevention
Consider using other campus resources to receive additional support or to learn more about options you may choose, including reporting the assault to the university and/or to law enforcement.

- Sexually transmitted infection screening available for males and females

Travel Consultation Appointments
Please travel with caution and research your destination’s COVID-19 policies before travel. Get the latest health alerts for more information.
Travel Abroad (Out of Country) Consults
If you are studying or traveling abroad, you should consider making an appointment with one of our providers to discuss various pre-travel vaccinations and health care concerns.
1. Call 507.457.5160 to schedule your travel visit at least 4-6 weeks before departure. This is to allow appropriate timing of vaccinations.
2. Educate yourself about possible health concerns or alerts with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) travel information on your destinations. Print this out and bring it to your appointment.3. Bring the following information with you to your appointment:
- CDC information for your destination(s)
- Immunization Records: Here's a few tips on finding documentation of your vaccinations
- Itinerary and activities
- List of current medications (if any)
Don't wait until it is too late. Call 507.457.5160 to schedule your consult.
Some insurance companies do not cover costs associated with travel vaccines, medicines, etc.
Contact your insurance carrier via the “customer service” phone number provided on the back of your insurance card to inquire about coverage of vaccinations and visit.
