Early Childhood & Elementary Education
At Winona State University there are three options for majors in elementary education and early childhood education:
- Elementary Education- kindergarten to grade six (with or without a minor)
- Elementary Education with Early Childhood emphasis – birth to grade six (no minor needed)
- Early Childhood Education- birth to grade three (earned Associate degree needed)
We believe teachers reflect the individual child’s needs, are responsive to the social context of learning within the classroom, and advocate for children beyond the individual classroom.
Some students who see additional depth or preparation for delivering quality literacy instruction choose to complete the Reading Instruction Minor.
While completion of the minor in itself does not provide additional teacher licensing, courses in the minor have been designed to lay the foundation for students wishing to seek a MN Teacher of Reading License in future professional development.
