Are you considering majoring in BUSA, but aren't sure what careers it will prepare you for?

Students majoring in BUSA have the desire to play a leadership role in the development of organizations. They should be able to work well with other people and should possess the range of talents needed to deal with new and changing situations.

You’re a business administration major if you:

  • Want a degree that is broadly applicable to many industries.
  • Are a good written and oral communicator.
  • Are looking for rapid advancement and income potential.
  • Are interested in entering an MBA program. 

The purpose of the Business Administration program is to prepare students for careers in management and administration positions in all types of organizations in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors.

Business Administration majors acquire skills on how to budget, organize, plan, hire, direct, control, and otherwise manage various organizations. Many students also add another major or minor to add to their areas of competencies and skills.

The BUSA major emphasizes both behavioral and technical approaches to managing in today's fast-paced organizations. Students are exposed to information that assists them in managing resources at the individual, group, and organizational levels of analysis.

Additionally, students are provided an overview of technology and its application in the development of management information systems for both small and large businesses.

Issues regarding leadership, motivation, organizational communication, organizational design transformations and change as well as an overview of human resource concerns are all covered within this program.

The BUSA program has been designed to allow the student to emphasize practical training through internships, entrepreneurships, operations, or a combination of these areas through electives.


What kinds of courses will I take?

Business Administration majors take 66 credits of progressive coursework in a variety of disciplines, such as accounting, business law, finance, marketing, economics, statistics, human resources and decision-making.

In addition to the 11 College of Business core courses (33 credits) BUSA majors take 9 required courses (21 credits) and 4 electives (12 credits) to meet the 66 credit requirement.

  • Prerequisite for College of Business majors and minors: Admission to the College of Business
  • Prerequisite for non-College of Business majors and minors: Junior standing and instructor's permission. Also, coursework prerequisites as noted.

Business Administration majors prepare students for management and administrative positions in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors.

Students who graduate with a degree in business administration are prepared for a variety of careers in business or industry, including banking, finance, manufacturing, product development, human resources, IT management and business analysis.

These professions and professional organizations illustrate the types of positions you might qualify for if you complete this major. Some majors are more directly related to employment than others.

You should consider the likelihood of employment after graduation carefully, if you do not plan to go on for graduate work in a field.

Employment possibilities are often enhanced by the selecting employment-related courses and by the enrollment in a second major or in a minor.
